about

I met MurmaOne when we were 6 or 7 years old.

We went to the same primary school, and he lived just down the street and around the corner from me. We'd regularly go to each other's houses after school and play NES; I'm not sure if we ever got past the second level of the Terminator 2 game (y'know the one, where you're riding the motorbike through the canal and you have to fire the shotgun backwards), it was very challenging but we had fun nonetheless. The furthest I ever got on my own was the Cyberdyne Systems level, if that's important, which it isn't.

After the primary school years, I didn't see Murma for some time, but we reunited in 2014 to play some Fringe shows at the Royal Croquet Club, him performing with his group Vintage Inc and me with my group The Automenta. More fun times.

We parted ways again, and more time passed. Eventually we got back in touch and he started sending me beats. Lots of beats. Well over 100 of them, pulled from his seemingly infinite archive of instrumentals. The game was well and truly afoot. My initial working title for the project was Larder Vittles, due to Murma constantly feeding me tasty morsels from his magical and inexhaustible pantry. I picked through and found the ones that spoke to me the most loudly and clearly and we made some songs, more songs than you're going to hear today, in fact. But here are 7 of them that we'd like to share with you.

We come to you today as the fully-grown versions of two young boys in the foggy foothills of Belair, still yet to develop an obsession with raps and beats, bonding over a shared love of video games and horror movies, and we humbly present to you: 5052.

It's dirty and jagged and dusty and full of heart and whimsy. Please enjoy.

Many thanks to Luke Vexx, Mont Sombre, and Brother Pete for their superdope vocal/lyrical contributions, to Denno for nailing the mix/master process, and to Wakemare for his inimitable camera work on the video components for the project.
